Every garden is unique.The special
qualities that each client and site brings to the equation means there
is no “one package fits all”. I aim to create a garden that exceeds the
client’s expectations. It is my job to push perceived boundaries to create
something special.
I
design gardens in a wide range of styles and can tailor a package to suit
your requirements and budget.Gardens
range from large scale country and lifestyle properties to small inner-city
courtyards.
The following is a brief outline
of the different stages involved in designing your garden. My involvement
in the project can be as little or as much as you require.
Stage
1 - Initial Consultation
This is your opportunity
to show me your site and to discuss your needs and wishes as well as presenting
your vision and any ideas you might already have. After this meeting,
an outline of services to be provided and the cost is prepared.
Stage
2 – Site Survey and Analysis
Once confirmation
to proceed with the job is received, a further site visit is undertaken
to measure up, gather and record site information. Photos and/or digital
images are taken at this time.Any relevant plans or survey should be passed
on if these are available. For large and/or complicated sites, it may
be necessary to request a surveyed site plan be done so that I can provide
a more accurate and efficient service.Information may also need to be
collected from other professionals such as local bodies, architects and
engineers.
Stage
3 – Preparation of Draft Concept Plans
Two to three initial
draft concepts are prepared for your perusal. These may include plans,
drawings, collages, models or a combination of all these. The drafts are
then presented, often with supporting pictures to enable the client to
fully understand the concepts I am conveying. At this stage, 50% of the
agreed plan price is due. These concepts are then left with you.
Stage 4 – Preparation of Final
Concept Plan
Once the concept
you wish to proceed with has been progressed and any necessary changes
made, a final, rendered concept plan is prepared. This will graphically
illustrate the overall layout of the design with notes on design features,
materials and plants. I will verbally walk you through the plan and answer
any questions you might have. final 50% balance of the agreed plan price
is due at this stage. Often the garden can be implemented from the concept
plan alone, especially if you are using a preferred landscaping contractor.Note,
however, it is only a concept plan. For more complex plantings and/or structures,
it may be necessary to request the following working drawings:
Planting
Plan – This will
graphically show the exact location of all plants on a plan with reference
back to a schedule denoting all plant names, numbers required and sizes.
Alternatively, I can compile a list of plants, source and supply them
and then place on site ready for planting.
Working
Drawings – These
include all construction details, lighting and irrigation layout and specifications
for contractors to implement the design. The
costs for these will depend on the individual site and scope of the design.
Stage 5 – Implementation
of the Design
Should you not wish to construct
the garden yourselves, the job could be tendered out and the construction
managed on your behalf.
As each client’s needs are different, a great deal of flexibility in
the design process is important.I will assess your requirements and
tailor a package to suit your individual needs and budget.
